Notes: I said it before, I'll said it again: It's nowhere to be orignal, despite the timeline-switching style (and even there, I'm not sure if it's been done before). Not to mention that it's predictable as hell (I guess most of the readers have figured "the price" already with reading the description, but, please, don't spoil it for the two or three who haven't :wink:). Yet it's still my most presentable fic.

Originally, I just wrote Chapter 1 to "have the rights" on the idea, so I could work later with it, while focusing my work on "The 2nd try". I didn't really expected to find 20 mails from the ff.net bot, when I woke up the next mornig. Ah, well the intereset has seemingly ceased with chap 3, so I guess, I can take my time with chap 4...

Asuka watched the timer again. Only 30 seconds left and EVA-00 was out. But she still would beat the Angel. She had to. Otherwise...
Again, she had only time to react by instinct to dodge, as its arms slashed out once more.
But just as she thought she had escaped the deadly blades, they lost their rigor and instead of cutting through her, they rolled back, wrapping around the EVA's wrists. With an incredible strength, the green monster lifted the red Unit up, holding the arms apart in an unyielding grip. ---
"Energy-spike detected! The Angel's preparing to fire again!" ---
Asuka tried not to panic as she saw the flickering of light in the Angel's eyes and mouth. She struggled to get her arms free with all her might, but to no avail; the grip was just too strong. But she wouldn't lose. She concentrated all energy she had left into her AT-Field... ---
"She's draining her power much too quickly! She won't be able to block such firepower for long!" ---
"I won't lose! My mother protects me! Don't you, Mama?" ---

I hope you don't mind some hopefully contructive criticism. *sweatdrop*
I like the P3I parts more than the series retelling parts. The reason is that you're making the same mistake as most authors of fics of this genre do. You stick too much to the original story, only changing minor details and adding some romance. I mean one almost always gets the following:
The 12th sucks in Unit 01. The 13th takes over Unit 03. The 14th is eaten by Yui. Shinji gets liquified. The 15th mindrapes Asuka. The 16th is blown up together with Unit 00. The 17th is squeezed to death by Unit 01 in Terminal Dogma after capturing Unit 02.
The only common changes are that Touji, Asuka, and/or Rei are somehow saved from the 13th, 15th, and 16th respectively. But even here without any further consequences for the rest of the story.
But we all know this story and have read it 1001 times in fanfics. Put in some surprises! What if the activation of Unit 03 had gone right and Bardiel had somehow captured Unit 02 instead? What if Rei had been absorbed by the 12th? Or what if Shinji had already been liquified while escaping that one? What if the Angels would appear in a different order? And these differences are still only variations on a theme. Use your imagnation.
The question would be: Why should it be that different this time? The only one who can evoke changes are Shinji and Asuka, and even with their knowledge they couldn't do as much as changing the Angel's targets (this goes at least at the 13th) or in which order they attack. And I haven't even decided about the 16th/Rei II's fate yet. And who said that (at least) Toji's rescue won't have any further consequences? And do you really think the whole Kaworu part is going to be the same this time? (oh, and you forgot Kaji )
Second: I don't want it to be that different. Of course I could change things more drastically (at least we can pretend I could :p ), but I don't really see the point to do so, it is just my retelling of the story after all. T2t was never meant to be very original; neither the post TI, nor the retelling, nor the time-travell concept, nor Asuka's pregnancy (in the original concept she would even have gotten pregnant three times in one fic... maybe more original, but in hindsight I think it's a little overkill... :roll: ), nor... ah, whatever... A lot of stuff had been inspired by other fics I have read around the time the idea came into my mind, and there were several stories where I thought "I like the idea, but I don't like the direction it takes or how it's handled". So the only original aspect is that I'm mixing this stuff together in my way. Yes, that's exactly what most of all those crappy authors do - but I never said I wasn't one. That were the readers. Hi.
